How you use AI decides what you remember

Anthropic ran a randomized trial with 52 developers learning a new library. Half used an AI assistant. Afterward, the AI group scored lower on a quiz about the code they had just written, and the biggest gap was in debugging.

The finding that matters sits inside the AI group. The developers who asked why, and asked for explanations, scored well above the ones who pasted in the task and handed back the result.

The tool is not the whole story. What you do with your own mind is.
