Epic Games is reportedly pivoting to an AI-first production model for its upcoming Marvel and Star Wars-themed Disney shooter, resulting in an indefinite delay of the project originally slated for 2027.
Developers on the team have been instructed to replace traditional handwritten code and art workflows with AI-generated assets.
This shift underscores a broader strategic move within the company to integrate AI-driven development into their production pipelines.
According to reports, the developers have asked the development team to take a new approach based on artificial intelligence. One of the game's directors reportedly informed the staff that from now on, no human code will be written and that the graphics will be created entirely by artificial intelligence systems.
Shortly after, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney made a post on Platform X that seemed to confirm the change of tack. He said the company is making a huge effort to make the most of the new tools. According to him, the goal is to give everyone the ability to create more and better things, bringing benefits to all teams that use the company's tools.
Epic Games' head of communications, Jake Jones, noted that the company is embracing AI-assisted development, under the guidance of its developers.
