Low Balance Alerts: Never Run Out of SMS Credits Mid-Campaign

You can now set your own low-balance alert on your YoolaSMS dashboard, and we will text you before your SMS credits run out.
It started with one of our busiest customers, who sends thousands of messages a day. Their question was simple: can you warn us when credit is running low? Running out in the middle of a campaign means failed sends, missed reminders and a rush to top up, and a warning a day or two earlier prevents all of it.

How the alert works
When a message you send leaves your credits at or below the level you chose, we send one SMS to the phone number on your account.
You will not get that text again until you have topped up above your level and then dropped to it a second time. This keeps the alert useful instead of noisy.
It works whether you send from the dashboard or through the API. It is only a heads-up: your messages keep sending as normal, and the alert text itself is free.

Set yours up in under a minute
Open Low Balance Alert in your dashboard menu, choose a level, and press Save.

1. Log in to your YoolaSMS dashboard.
2. Click Low Balance Alert in the left menu, just under Top Up Credits. You will also see a small Set alert button on your SMS Credits Left card.
3. Type the number of credits at which you want to be warned, or tap a quick option: 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 or 50,000.
4. Not sure what to pick? Tap Suggested. It is based on your own sending over the last 7 days.
5. Press Save alert. The page also shows the phone number the alert will be sent to. If it is not the right one, you can change it in your profile. To change the level or turn the alert off later, come back to the same page. Choosing the right level Pick a level that gives you enough time to top up, and remember that it counts SMS credits, not money.

The level is the same number you see as SMS Credits Left on your dashboard. One normal SMS of up to 160 characters uses one credit, while long messages and some numbers use more. The page shows the money equivalent as you type, so you can see both.
A good starting point is about two days of your normal sending. If you send around 1,000 messages a day, set the alert at 2,000 credits. At UGX 35 per SMS, that is about UGX 70,000.

Then adjust for how quickly you can top up:
• If topping up takes a day or two, for example because of approvals, choose a higher level.
• If you can top up by mobile money in minutes, a lower level is enough.
Good to know
The alert is deliberately simple, and these are its limits.
• It never blocks sending. It only warns you.
• It is checked after each message you send, including messages sent through the API. Scheduled messages do not trigger an alert on their own, so check your credits before a large scheduled campaign.
• It tracks your SMS credits. That is the number shown as SMS Credits Left.
• It needs a valid phone number. If the number on your account is missing or incomplete, we cannot text you. The page tells you when this is the case, and you can correct the number in your profile.
