In this article, we are going to understand why the need for launching this policy came; its benefits; drawbacks; how it is changing the mindset of educators and students; and the response of institutions to it. What is NEP 2020?
The National Education Policy is a new reform by the government to transform education so it can become flexible, comprehensible, digital, and creative and prepare the golden future of the country by making students ready for the future digital era. This education policy has been launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Ministry of Education).
The draft of this system was drafted by the former ISRO chief, Dr K. Kasturirangan. A committee was built to prepare the entire policy, and the policy was approved by the Government of India in July 2020. It replaced the old education policy of 1986, which was revised in 1992.
This new policy has replaced the 10+2 system of schools. It covers the school and university curriculum, teachers’ way of teaching, methods of assessment, etc., by ensuring flexibility, creativity, students’ interests, and their mental stress. The National Education Policy ensures that students should be ready with 21st-century skills by focusing on analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, imparting digital skills in them, and providing them with the best education.
