Factors That Determine the Best Time
There is no "universal best time" to fish. The optimal time depends on:
-
Solunar periods — Lunar transits create windows of high activity
-
Sunrise and sunset — Light transitions that trigger feeding
-
Water temperature — Determines whether fish are active
-
Season of the year — Changes patterns completely
Schedules by Season
Winter (Nov-Feb) — Peak Season
-
Best time: 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
- Water is cold early. Fish wait for the sun to warm the surface.
Spring (Mar-May) — Pre-Spawn
-
Best time: 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM
- Perfect temperatures. Double activity window.
Summer (Jun-Aug) — Extreme Heat
-
Best time: 5:00 AM - 7:30 AM and 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
- First and last light are the only productive windows.
Fall (Sep-Oct) — Pre-Winter Feeding
-
Best time: 7:00 AM - 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
- Fish feed aggressively preparing for winter.
The Solunar Period Rule
Regardless of season, if a major solunar period coincides with sunrise or sunset, you have an exceptional fishing window. This happens approximately 4-5 times per month.
Check our solunar table to find exactly when these periods occur at your favorite lake.
Practical Tips
-
Arrive 30 minutes early before the solunar period
-
Don't leave early — minor periods at sunset often produce the biggest bass
